II-VI Incorporated – LuphoScan becomes standard in the II-VI process of providing fused silica aspheres in volume production

12/03/16

II-VI has long been a global leader in IR materials, supplying the CO2 laser market with optics for high power systems.  In order to address the rapidly growing 1 micron laser market, II-VI has invested in state-of-the-art machining and metrology systems in order to produce fused silica aspheres.  The most recent purchase is the LuphoScan 260.  This ultra-precise, non-contact measurement system has the capability to take three-dimensional measurements of aspheric surfaces.

The LuphoScan 260 takes three-dimensional measurements that ensure the parts meet surface requirements over 100% of the optic.  Also, because this system is a non-contact metrology method, it ensures the surface of the optic is not damaged during metrology.  These two capabilities allow II-VI to provide the highest quality fused silica optics to its customers.

It is critical to II-VI’s production process that the LuphoScan 260 takes quick and accurate measurements.  With an average measurement time of 5 minutes per optic, the LuphoScan is able to provide quick feedback without delaying production.  Because of all the capabilities that the LuphoScan 260 provides, it has become a standard in the II-VI process of providing fused silica aspheres in volume production to the level of quality that its customers have come to expect.
